September Background

I was getting ready to sit down and watch the Seahawks and Raiders game when I realized it was September 2 and I had not updated by background.  I rely on John Saddington for this monthly reminder, since that’s where I got the idea to start changing every month! Thanks to John and Smashing Magazine.

A Case of the Mondays

-My wife recently reminded me that while we can’t wait for weekend and church on Sunday…the devil lives for Mondays.

Business, Conferences and The Year Ahead

The next year is a lot like the road to my house, partially paved and lacking definition in different places.  Here are some thoughts:

-with the launch of Creative Fuel Studios,  the  goal is to build a sustainable venture by  focusing on local, regional, and national relationships.

-I am planning on attending Author Experience, Calibrate NW, and a few local tech events in Portland,OR.

- My plan is to be home with the family as much as possible with as little travel as possible, unless the family is coming with me.  I’m not looking to get on a speaking circuit or be a micro-celebrity.  I can barely handle the hat.

-I’m digging my new colleagues and am beyond excited about new clients, projects, and the future.

-Really looking forward to blogging more at Mission Igniter, Three Thirty PM, and here.

-I wear a black Quiksilver fitted cap.  The other hat is more wintry.

-I like to collect toy robots, so if you find a cool one, let me know!

-I want to know my readers and how I can help you.

Fueling Your Fires

A few weeks ago I heard a sermon about quenching our fire.  I found 2 take-aways from that message:

1.) Personally, I sometimes approach the point of burn-out by working too much.  I talk about work too much.  It might be time to take a short vacation offline and spend time with the family.  This is easier said than done in the modern age of social media.  I am looking at daily readings from the Bible, walking, reading, finding a hobby.

2. Professionally,  it is somewhat a mirror-image of #1, but I should be spending some time reading for my growth.  I am also meeting with others offline at least once a week.  After reading REWORK, I’m convinced that working longer hours is not always necessary.

What about you? What are you doing to balance life/work?

Video that Inspires#3:Winters of My Life

Winters of My Life is a portrait of Howard Weamer. For the past 35 years he has spent his winters as a hutkeeper in Yosemite’s backcountry. He fills his days writing, reading, photographing, and being an ambassador to mountain culture. This is a brief look into his world and why he chooses to stay.
